The March Group Deception, misrepresented, Boynton Beach, Florida

1Author0Consumer0Employee/Owner

I was contacted in approximagely October 2010 for a local Business Seminar by the March Group. I attended and most of the meeting was about how now is the best time in many years to sell your business through a "Premium" or "Strategic Sale" which would command much more money than a typical Asset or Earnings type sale and that The March Group was the best company around to handle that type of sale.

Each of the participants was invited to speak personally with Terry Stidham and based on his leading me to think I could get much more money for my business if I sold now, I scheduled a follow up appoiintment with him so he could see my business and I could provide him with some general figures to determine if it would be worthwhile to proceed with evaluating my business for a "Premium" or "Strategic Sale".

During that appointment I repeatedly told Terry that I was not interested in a small earnings based sell which might be one to three years earnings. I have had those opportunities a number of times. After anwering his questions and providing him with basic financial information, he said he thought my business would be well suited for a "Premium" or "Strategic Sale" and again buyers paid much more than the typical asset or earnings type sale. Also, he talked about an International Conference Call where they would fasttrack my business and make available to potential buyers from all over the world. The fee for this would be $39.500 but that would be a great investment since I would be selling my business for so much more.

I explained that due to the economy and an expensive divorce that I did not have the money but I was interested. The only way I could proceed would be by borrowing from my retirement. He assured me it would be a good investment and that I could split up the payments.

I completed some of their paperwork and was told that an analyst would be gathering information to create a "Business Evaluation" Long story short after paying them half of the $39,000 or $19,500, I get back an evalution of $100,000 which is less than one years earnings.

I believe that all along this was just a ploy to extract large amounts of money for very modest tasks that were contracted out to freelancers.

he March Group They contacted my company to convince me to sell and they had premium buyers lined up. Coral Springs Florida

The March group has a boiler room operation with 50 or more people calling private business owners trying to get them to sell their business. They tell you its the right time and they have premium buyers lined up that have interest in your company because you are in an industry they like. The tele-marketers try to convince you to go to a seminar where you spend the entire day being convinced to sell the company and to put up between 40 and 60 thousand dollars so they can market your company. To date they have taken in hundreds of fees from hundreds of companies amounting to millions of dollars and have only sold a handful of companies. They are only interested in upfront fees and are not a real Mergers & Acquisitions company as they portray. They are business brokers acting like investment bankers and give advice and collect fees in states where they are not licensed to give advice and collect fees. Most of the managment and some of the tele-marketers came from another company that has outstanding law suits and they jumped ship.I recongnized some of the people who call that called from another company with the same script. The contracts they want you to sign tie you up for years with them.

The March Group Merger & Acquisitions Experts or Rip-off, Scam? Fraud? Coral Springs, Florida

*UPDATE by author: The March Group Settlement

2AuthoThe March Group wants you to sign a contract with them paying a hefty fee up front to market and sell your business.Don’t be a victim to this scam!

They produce a poorly assembled “boilerplate” business report. We asked them to correct this and they totally blew it off for over 8 months now! Their CVA or “Confidential Valuation Analysis” template / report undervalued our business. They tie this low value to the contract to sell your business with them as a minimum requirement for acceptance of any offer. What a fraud!

The March Group did not perform per their contract.Certainly, with the poor quality of work, missing items, delays, management turnover and lack of follow through on The March Group, we asked for our money back and they responded that they would not return the full amount, only offering a small portion to be returned to us for the little amount of work that they produced. The March Group was not fair or reasonable in any of this dispute, as they performed very little service and they still wanted to keep a majority of our money!

We believe that they intended to do this from the start. What a scam & rip-off!

    March Group Scam

The March Group employs seminar strategy to 'help' determine the value of your business. Primarily, that virtually every customer that pays them a retainer hopes and expects to be sold for a high price when relatively few ever sell. All they get is a little report. Which begs the question — are these “M&A firms” in the business of collecting up-front fees or selling businesses? This, in fact, is a scam. An up-front fee scam, employed by The March Group, that’s been started by the people who came from Geneva companies and/or Equico.
